Mesh Modification Techniques for Navier-Stokes Meshes
Eberhard Elsholz, H. Steinmeyer · Notes on numerical fluid mechanics · 1997
A mesh modification system is described that is suitable for re-designing a 3D mesh without depending on the mesh generation tool originally used. All modifications are performed on the basis of unidirectional interpolation with the ability to detect and preserve geometric discontinuities. The concept also includes the modification of the solution to minimize computational turn-around times. The mesh-modifier runs in a workstation environment and is closely coupled to a commercial graphical tool for instant re-check of subsequent modifying steps. A demonstration of applicability is presented for a number of viscous mesh problems. These are the adaptation of the mesh to the boundary layer and wake surfaces of a wing-alone configuration, massive mesh enrichment in the rear-fuselage/tail area of a complex wing/body/tail transport aircraft configuration and the deformation of the outer wing due to simulated elasticity.
