Database animations for many majors: pre-conference workshop

Don Goelman, Suzanne Wagner Dietrich · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2012

This workshop demonstrates and discusses animations designed for teaching database concepts to diverse majors, as part of enhancing computational fluency of all students. The first animation introduces relational databases by contrasting a database with a spreadsheet in data representation and querying capabilities. The second animation provides a conceptual overview of querying relational databases including SQL. Of particular significance are the capabilities for customizing the animations to specific student interests or majors, which will also be demonstrated as part of this workshop. Plans for ongoing communication will be made, and the discussion will continue over lunch, courtesy of NSF DUE grant 0941584/0941401.
