Implementing Economics into Biosecurity Risk Analysis: Avoiding the Pitfalls of Uncertainty
David C. Adamson · 2006
The development of user-friendly economic models allows for greater communication and interaction between the disciplines involved in biosecurity. By creating a decision support platform that allows users to critique the assumptions and processes involved, greater faith is then placed in that system as it develops into a living and breathing tool, whose accuracy improves through time, rather than just delivering a static report. By opening the economic black box, greater effort can then be put into the economic content and also tightening up the bio-economic assumptions. This approach minimise the issues of risk, uncertainty, and communication problems between disciplines. Key words: modelling, risk, uncertainty and state contingent approach
