Introduction to Testing COM Components
Mary Romero Sweeney · Apress eBooks · 2001
The Common Object Model (COM) is the system that Microsoft has created for defining software objects that can interact with one another. This model now proliferates throughout Windows software. As testers of Windows applications, we will be operating under this architecture for a long time; even when the new DotNet (see Chapter 11) architecture becomes fully adopted, the testing community will need to understand and test COM objects for existing applications and for interoperability of the new with the old. That’s just part of the testing game. In this chapter, we will explore COM more formally, discussing its key components such as classes and collections. You will learn not only how to access them for testing but also how to create and use them for your own purposes. To really be successful using and testing COM, you will want to study further. Some excellent resources for doing so are listed in Appendix A: Resources and References.
