AbstractThis paper presents an overview, initial requirements analysis and softwaresystem architecture solution proposed for the development of a tool for modelling, simulation and analysis of concurrency models used in asynchronous circruit de-sign. 1 Introduction For a long time, token-flow based models, such as Petri nets or static dataflow mod-els, have been used as a major tool for modelling and analysis of concurrent systems. However, while some of their inherent properties make them an obvious choice fordescribing data-path and control-path of asynchrnous circuits [2], they also somewhatlack flexibility and physical realism (particularly because token transitions are instantand tokens themselves are atomic). This calls for introduction of different modellingmethods, which may be an extension to currently existing token-flow models or even atotally different concept.Unfortunately, it is extremely hard, if not impossible, to analytically determinewhich model will be most appropriate for a particular modelling task, or to compare itwith other models; it requires actual modelling to be done to discover practical advan-tages or disadvantages. This generates a need for a software tool which would providemeans to integrate several different models into one consistent framework, thus en-abling a circuit designer to effectively test and compare them.
