Particle Filter Based Track-before-detect Algorithm for Over-the-horizon Radar Target Detection and Tracking ⁄

A particle fllter based Track-before-detect (TBD) algorithm for Over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) tar- get detection and tracking is proposed in this paper. In the TBD algorithm the unthresholded measurements are inte- grated over time, thus it can potentially detect and track targets with a much lower signal-to-noise ratio than con- ventional methods. Such a characteristic make the TBD technique adequate for OTHR target detection and track- ing. The performance of the proposed algorithm employs difierent unthresholded measurements, such as complex measurements, amplitude measurements and power mea- surements, are compared and discussed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is capable to detect and track dim targets for OTHR and the amplitude measure- ments are preferred for the proposed algorithm.
