Abstract The view that Franklin was expressing is that virtually every conclusion we draw is an uncertain one. We all believe that the sun will rise tomorrow, but no one has a real proof of it. I believe that I have no brother, since if I did have one, I would know about it. But it is still possible that, unbeknownst to me, I have a brother after all.
