Performance of a spectrum sharing game with a path gain ratio based cost parameter

P. Likitthanasate, David Grace, Paul Mitchell · 2008

This paper investigates the performance of a spectrum sharing game applied to cognitive radio systems serving their users. A multivariable parameter payoff function incorporating various physical parameters is used to determine preferences of users in the game. The path gain ratio is used to set the cost of a particular transmission power in the payoff function for players in a game, to reflect the benefits of using the signal path versus the interference caused to others. The performance is compared to the optimal outcomes and two spectrum etiquettes called CINR and INR based spectrum etiquettes. The results have shown that the fully distributed spectrum sharing game reaches the Nash Equilibrium point with high probability (> 0.9) and offers the performance outcomes close to the optimal operating points at moderate inter-system separation distances.
