A Rigorous Treatment of Microdata, Macrodata, and Metadata

Hans-Joachim Lenz · COMPSTAT · 1994

There is a lot of ambiguities about the semantics of micro-, macro- and metadata which are the main data structures for the data management of statistical packages as well as for statistical databases. We believe that mathematical rigoumess can be achieved by introducing abstract data-structures for micro-, macro- and metadata together with the corresponding sets of operators. In such a way we implicitly define what statistical data is like and avoid the usual ambiguities.
