The Mobile Wireless Ether - Finding Its Way Into the Automobile
Paul L. DeVries, M. Chrysochoos, Shraddha Kumthekar · 2002
This paper examines the mobile wireless ether and looks at the challenges it presents to automakers. The authors describe technologies currently in use or soon to be available. They focus on transport modalities of particular technologies and do not address voice transmission/services. The technologies they discuss include: Generation 1 Bluetooth, Generation 2 Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11b Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service, Eureka 147 Digital Audio Broadcast, In Band on Channel, CDMA Cellular/PCS, and Wideband CDMA. Several case studies, with the authors concluding that much remains to be done at the vehicle level to integrate these technologies.
