The role of Social Capital in the Integration of Health Information Systems
Selamawit Molla Mekonnen · 2009
In recent times, the agenda of strengthening ICTs mediated integration of Health Information Systems (HIS) has been emphasized in research and practice of health reforms in both developed and developing countries. However, its realization remains to be challenging especially in the context of developing countries. The paper presents a case study from Gujarat state of India describing the efforts of a HIS project to implement an integrated computerized system to manage the routine health information. A central argument in this paper is on the role that social capital plays in the process of building such a system, and also the role of ICTs in building such social capital.
