A New Adaptive Anisotropic Diffusion using the Local Intensity Variance

This paper presents a new Adaptive Anisotropic Diffusion technique –based on Perona-Malik (P-M) equationto smooth a signal while preserving discontinuities. In P-M equation, We propose to adapt the Scale Dimension k parameter of the diffusivity function according to the local intensity variance, which is computed for each image pixel. We will show that this technique remo ves noise and irrelevant details while preserving sharper boundaries. The results show that the proposed approach outperform classical P-M technique.
