An Empirical Study of Computer-Administered Two-Stage Ability Testing.

Nancy E. Betz, David J. Weiss · 1973

Abstract : In an investigation of new approaches to measuring abilities, a two-stage adaptive test and a conventional peaked test were constructed and administered on a time-shared computer system to students in undergraduate psychology courses. Comparison of the score distributions yielded by the two tests are discussed for variability, distribution, and test-retest stability. Suggestions for possible ways to improve the characteristics of the two-stage testing strategy are offered. (Modified author abstract)
