VISTA, VISUAL INTERACTIVE SYSTEM FOR TRANSPORTATION ALGORITHMS

Athanasios K. Ziliaskopoulos, Steven Travis Waller, Curtis L. Barrett · 1999

This website is a machine executable geographic information system called VISTA (Visual Interactive System for Transportation Algorithms). VISTA is an object-oriented framework which unifies several transportation analysis tools so that they share a common data specification and user interface. These tools include the traffic simulator RouteSim, static traffic assignment, Dynamic Traffic Assignment algorithms, and network routing algorithms. This framework is based on the Common Object Request Brokerage Architecture (CORBA) specification developed by the Object Management Group. CORBA allows the modules to be written in separate programming languages, and to be run on different machines over a network. The user interface to VISTA functions as a Geographic Information System (GIS) with zooming panning, and query capabilities. This GIS is written as a Java Applet. The interface GIS runs on the user's computer, and submits requests remotely to the server for execution
