ON TWO TYPES OF NEUTRINOS, LEPTON ISOTOPIC SPIN, AND UNIVERSAL FOUR-FERMION INTERACTION

É. M. Lipmanov · Zhur. Eksptl'. i Teoret. Fiz. · 1959

It is suggested that two types of neutrinos exist in nature, nu /sub 1/ and nu /sub 2/ which, although having identical longitudinal polarizations, may have different lepton charges and which form, together with the electron and mu meson, two isotopic lepton doublets ( nu /sub 1/2 and ( nu /sub 2/ mu . The electron and mu -meson lepton charges are also opposite. The laws of conservation of isotopic spin and lepton charge and chirality uniquely specify the nature of mu decay and yield the selection rules which exclude various unobservable reactions involving leptons.
