Diversity in Communication: From Source Coding to Wireless Networks
Suhas N. Diggavi · The MIT Press eBooks · 2006
Randomness is an inherent part of network communications. We broadly define diversity as creating multiple independent instantiations (conduits) of randomness for conveying in-formation. In the past few years a trend is emerging in several areas of communications, where diversity is utilized for reliable transmission and efficiency. In this chapter, we give examples from three topics where diversity is beginning to play an important role. 1
