Modelling, Simulation and Analysis with 20-Sim

We discuss the modelling and simulation package 20-Sim, a tool for modelling and simulation of dynamic behaviour of engineering systems. Engineering systems as application domain means that we focus systems that span multiple physical domains and the information domain. 20-Sim models are hierarchical structured block-diagram and bond-graph models. Furthermore, non-causal equations can be used to enter own submodels. The modelling approach used here is close to object-oriented modelling: 20-Sim models are declarative, hierarchically structured, and encapsulation is fully supported. Furthermore, due to allowing hierarchy, the notion of definition and use of models are distinguished (i.e. the class concept and instantiation). The 20-Sim software is organised as an interactive tool, where model entry and model processing are fully integrated. This means that already during the model entry process, verification of models can be performed and results shown in the model itself. The tool is illustrated by an example in which a computer controlled electromechanical system is modelled and simulated.
