On the dynamic decode-and-forward relay listen-transmit decision rule in intersymbol interference channels

Stefan Maagh, Mohammad Y. Sharif, A.E.A. Almaini · 2010

This paper reviews the listen-transmit decision rule of the dynamic decode-and-forward (DDF) relay. Previous work [1, 2, 3] on this rule considered the flat fading channel and Gaussian channel inputs. In practice, the wireless channel suffers from intersymbol interference (ISI) and channel inputs are chosen from a discrete symbol constellation. Therefore, in this paper a generalized decision rule is formalized. Applying the minimum mean-squared-error decision-feedback equalizer (MMSE-DFE) in the relay, rules are specialized for the ISI channel assuming Gaussian and discrete channel inputs. Results of these decision rules obtained via Monte Carlo simulations are presented.
