Thispaperpresentsanapplicationdomainspecificrun-timesystemusinga lightweightuserinterfacemodeltocombineadvanceduserinterfaceswith flexibleconfigurationmechanisms.ThesystemiscalledtheVUIM- VRP UserInterfaceModule.andisagenericuserinterfaceruntimesystemforve hicleroutingapplications. Itbalancesbetweenbeingaverygeneral.model based.non-applicationdomainspecificVIdevelopmenttoolandbeingaturn keyapplication(readytouse.butwithverylimitedabilitiestobeadaptedto specificneeds).TheVVIMincludesaclasslibrarywithasetofgeneric,but applicationdomain-specificUIbuildingblocks.Thesebuildingblocksareona higherlevelthansimpleUIcontrols.butmoregenericthanadialogboxora windowinanapplication.Theclasslibraryisaugmentedwitharuntimesys tem(genericapplication).thatinterpretsaVImodel.TheVUIMexemplifies anovelapproachforCADUI.
