Learning a New Programming Language
Kurt Dowswell · 2024
This chapter explores how to interact with Copilot to learn a new programming language. With Copilot, one can quickly get answers to questions about languages, gain bespoke insights based on the previous knowledge, get examples, run tests, and ask questions, all within the integrated development environment. The chapter focuses on setting up the development environment for an example project. It also explores how one can converse with Copilot to discover how to create a C# console application and run it manually. A great way to learn with Copilot is to use Copilot code completions. Copilot Chat within Visual Studio Code allows to copy code snippets to the clipboard, insert code into the current file, create a new file, or insert code into the terminal. In addition to using the selected text as the context, one can use tags that allow Copilot to consider additional lines of code.
