The Final Challenge: Artificial Super Intelligence?

If AGI means machines equaling us at the tasks that define us, can we imagine a step beyond? This could take two forms: surpassing us at those same tasks, or performing tasks we cannot even conceive of. These are the two faces of a hypothetical superintelligence (ASI, Artificial Super Intelligence) and the possibility is being seriously debated in both academic and industrial circles.
