Le premier essai de stockage de muons dans l'anneau g-2 a été rendu possible grâce à la collaboration de plusieurs divisions du CERN.SUCCESSEUL TRIAL OE G-2 RING After the triumph of the CERN rugby team which has carried off both the Swiss cup and the championship, our physicists and engineers have not been hanging about on the touch lines. On June 15, they succeeded in storing3 GeVmuons in the new G-2 ring 14 m in diameter giving an extremely uniform magnetic field of 15000 Gauss. The object of the experiment being performed by a CERN-Mainz-Daresbury collaboration is to measure with even higher precision the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. The final result of this measurement which will take one step further our understanding of quantum electrodynamics will not be known before 1975.One is hoping for a precision of a few parts per million which means that there has to be a very detailed understanding of the systematic errors. Many divisions have participated in the construction and commissioning of the new ring in which these apparently superfluous particles of nature -the muons -have been stored.seminars
