A one-dimensional nerve net is considered consisting of nerve elements with sufficiently large self-inhibitory ability. The coupling among elements is effective for s elements in both directions; a sufficiently large negative coupling takes place in one direction and a coupling coefficient of the element separated by s elements in the other direction exceeds a threshold value. When an excitation pattern is injected into the part of such a net, the excitation pattern is transformed into one of stable patterns and propagates in one direction at a specified velocity. This indicates that the nerve net possesses pattern shaping and recognizing capabilities. This paper also discusses the synthesis method of realizing the net for a given set of stable patterns. The net is not always realizable, but if the stable pattern consists of successive exciting elements and the remaining resting elements, the net is always realizable.
