Smart Persuasion: The Influence of AI Nudges on Retirement Preparedness

The rising impact of digital technologies on financial behavior has led to a rise in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) powered nudging strategies in influencing people’s retirement planning strategies. This chapter explores the use of AI-based personalization and behavioral science by online platforms to gently help people become more prepared for retirement. In order to assess how well they work to encourage saving behaviors, investment choices, and long-term financial planning, it looks at a variety of digital nudging techniques, such as default settings, timely reminders, visual cues, and algorithmic recommendations. The chapter also discusses how ethics affects these methods. Additional focus is given to matters of user autonomy, transparency, and looking after those groups that need extra help. Results are based on studies that bring together different fields of investigation. All disciplines considered are here, such as financial planning, behavioral economics, and human-computer interaction. The chapter reviews in detail the changes “smart persuasion” is bringing to persuasion how people decide to retire. The last part includes suggestions for good design that AI nudging helps people become more informed, fair, and ready for what lies ahead.
