Abstract:This study outlines the practical use of mobile verification and validation processes in industrial software development. It explores the main challenges posed by manual and automated testing, continuous integration/continuous deployment, device fragmentation, and flaky end-to-end tests. The research takes place in an Agile (Scrum) context at a software company that develops a platform for frontline workers, combining a mobile app with a web-based back-office and incorporating Artificial Intelligence features. In this context, ensuring the quality of incremental deliveries requires balancing exploratory manual testing with automated end-to-end testing while addressing the instability and challenges commonly associated with mobile UI automation. The main challenge is maintaining the reliability and credibility of the automated test suite, especially in the presence of incomplete acceptance criteria, fast-paced development cycles, and other factors that affect the mobile testing cycle more broadly, such as limited device access and differences between emulators and real devices. Finally, the paper presents practical strategies to mitigate test flakiness and synthesises lessons learned to improve mobile testing practices in industrial contexts, including recommended approaches to test design, isolation, and early involvement in the development lifecycle.Context Note: This document shares lessons learned and best practices regarding mobile application testing in an industrial context.
