Mobile Phones and the Internet as Catalysts for Women Empowerment in Developing Countries

The increasing penetration of mobile and internet technologies has profoundly impacted women&s;s empowerment across the globe. This study investigates the ways in which access to mobile phones and the internet has transformed various aspects of women&s;s lives, focusing on economic opportunities, education, health, and social inclusion, especially in developing countries. Mobile technology and internet access have facilitated women&s;s active participation in the economy through digital entrepreneurship, enhanced access to financial services, and improved employment prospects. In the realm of education, these technologies offer platforms for e-learning and skills development, leading to higher literacy rates and better career opportunities for women. In health, mobile health (like mHealth) applications and online resources have significantly improved women&s;s access to information and healthcare services, resulting in better health outcomes. Socially, mobile and internet technologies have enhanced connectivity, networking, and civic participation, fostering a sense of community and support among women. This paper uses a comprehensive approach, analyzing data from different regions to illustrate the varied impacts of mobile and internet penetration on women&s;s empowerment. Results highlight the significance of digital technologies to overcome gender gaps & promote gender equality, while also addressing the existing challenges and barriers.
