The rapid development of wireless communications towards the fifth generation (5G) of wireless networks and beyond has brought together major breakthroughs. These networks introduce ultra-low latency, while allowing the connection of an extremely large number of devices at once, incorporating distributed intelligence as well. However, the features that make these systems valuable also create new weaknesses, which make traditional security systems no longer effective. This chapter demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) can reshape the future of wireless security and privacy. Methods like Federated Learning (FL), Deep Learning (DL), and Edge Intelligence can effectively enhance detection mechanisms, preserve privacy, and mitigate threats. The chapter also presents real-world applications and use-cases of these novelties across smart environments, healthcare, automobility, and intelligent network management. It concludes by discussing current obstacles and challenges, as well as future directions, emphasising the need for reliable, resilient, privacy preserving, and ethical AI systems, that can pave the way for entering the era of sixth generation (6G) networks.
