RSA benchmark framework based on weak parameters of RSA

Chan, Wei Ting · DR-NTU (Nanyang Technological University) · 2026

The RSA cryptosystem is widely used for secure communication in our daily lives. The computational difficulty of factoring large integers forms the main basis of security for RSA cryptosystems. However, its practical security is highly dependent on correct parameter selection and implementation. This project aims to investigate the impact of weak RSA parameters on the effectiveness of cryptanalytic attacks, including Wiener attack, Batch GCD attack and Fermat factorization attack on close primes. All the analysis and implementations based on the attacks will be part of a benchmarking framework, which will generate vulnerable keys, test the performance of cryptanalytic attacks. Key metrics will be recorded such as iterations, runtime and success rate to better assess the impacts of these attacks. The results will thus demonstrate how different weaknesses can lead to varying levels of severity. Importantly, this research also highlights the importance of secure key generation practices and provide professionals with a structured framework that can be extended for both academic analysis and real-world cryptographic auditing.
