Working Group on Estimation with the RDBES data model (WGRDBES-EST; outputs from 2023 meeting)

The ICES Working Group on Estimation with the RDBES data model (WGRDBES-EST) met be-tween 2021 and 2023 to continue developing the work of two previous ICES Workshops (WKRDB-EST 1 and 2). WGRDBES-EST counted on the routine participation of 14 experts from 11 countries. The work focused on programming a set of R functions that handle and estimate data in RDBES format. The main outcome of WGRDBES-EST efforts was the development and set in production of RDBEScore, the first R package dedicated to handling and design-based estimation using the RDBES data model (https://github.com/ices-tools-dev/RDBEScore). The present report highlights the main steps of the WGRDBES-EST journey in its first 3-year cycle. It provides a useful guide to the functions available in version 0.3.0 of that package (launched 21/11/2023). The experience gained over the 3 years in terms of establishing a produc-tive collaborative coding environment among a group of originally non-expert programmers is highlighted
