Design and development of a modular handling and framing accessory for the Pentax 17 film camera

This thesis presents the design and development of a modular handling and framing accessory for the Pentax 17. The project addresses ergonomic limitations of compact film cameras, such as restricted grip positions and reliance on eye-level composition. The study followed a user-centred design approach, including background research, a user survey, and an expert interview. Based on these findings, several concepts were explored and developed through iterative prototyping. The final design consists of a modular frame with a rotating handle and an external framing guide, enabling both eye-level and waist-level shooting. The results show that external accessories can improve camera ergonomics and usability without modifying the camera body, contributing to contemporary analogue photography design.
