Evolutionary and Extensive Threats Taxonomy for Internet of Things Architectures
Denis Trček · 2026
Internet of Things devices are increasingly being integrated into more complex computing structures. At the same time have many features that distinguish them from the rest of the Internet devices. In order to increase security, developments in this area require greater attention to threats due to these specificities. These are the focus of this paper, which first introduces an evolutionary and extensive threats taxonomy that can be seen as a kind of orthogonal threats base. This taxonomy is based on the developments in computer security area while focusing on the consequences of the ubiquitous integration of the Internet of Things devices. It also introduces a new approach to identifying new threats by using Large Language Model (LLM) implementations. Thus, ChatGPT was used to implement a method from the field of creative thinking to search for new threats arising from disruptive technologies. In this way, the paper provides an improved basis for risk management with anticipation of emerging threats, especially those that are more difficult to identify.
