Throughout human history, certain technological advancements have marked profound turning points, pushing our civilization forward and reshaping the very fabric of society. These innovations are not just incremental improvements, but monumental leaps that have transformed how humans live, work, and interact with the world. The purpose of this section is to highlight some milestones in human history that are widely accepted, which have represented a real leap forward for our civilization (depicted in Figure 2.1 ). We start this tour with the aim of understanding what can be expected from modern AI, and whether it can be genuinely included in this compendium of transformative milestones.
