Intelligent mobile and Internet of Things systems (IMIS) converge numerous technologies to create innovative applications that transform industries and also improve lives. By combining Internet of Things (IoT), mobile computing, wireless sensor networking, and artificial intelligence (AI), these systems enable the development of smarter, more efficient, and effective solutions. The rapid expansion of IMIS has greatly impacted many sectors, like industrial automation, smart homes, etc. This system uninterruptedly generates, processes, and exchanges large volumes of personal, operational, and sensitive data, making it a main target for cyber threats. As a result, ensuring privacy and strong security protections is essential to stop data breaches, cyberattacks, and unauthorized access. This chapter highlights the significance of delivering three essential security services, namely, Confidentiality, Integrity, and Authentication (CIA). Due to the limited computational and power capabilities of mobile and IoT devices, these security goals are recommended to be attained using lightweight cryptographic solutions. Intrusion is prevented and system trust is maintained through the vital role played by device authentication. Secure channels may be established using standard secure communication protocols such as DTLS, IPSec, SSL, and TLS. Moreover, IoT-specific protocols like MQTT-SN, CoAP-DTLS, and LWM2M are considered well-suited for resource-constrained environments. The user’s privacy and its trust must be kept by employing privacy-preserving mechanisms like data aggregation and data anonymization. In addition, the identification and mitigation of security threats are supported by the incorporation of an intrusion detection and prevention system, and the integrity and confidentiality of the system and its data are ensured.
