EBPQI, ROI and VOI

The evolution of evidence-based medicine led us to the evidence-based practice (EBP) that Nurse Practitioner (NP) care is centered around. EBP involves using the best available research evidence, clinician expertise and patient and family values in care decisions and is linked to reduced healthcare costs and improved outcomes.1 In order to sustain these efforts, quality improvement (QI) processes should be merged with EBP methods for continuous monitoring over time (EBPQI).2 For many years, nurses have been challenged to make the business case for return on investment (ROI) and value of investments (VOI).
