• Anonymous Multihop Locking in Payment Channel Networks for providing security. • Malicious users carry out DoS attacks and create network jams. • We propose three algorithms for secure payments in an anonymous environment. • Our algorithms perform mitigation and enhance the strength against DoS attacks. Anonymous multihop payment (AMHP) provides a promising solution for maintaining privacy and scalability while executing transactions in the payment channel network. However, these networks’ decentralized and anonymous nature makes them susceptible to Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, threatening users’ stability and trust. To address these challenges, we propose mitigation strategies to strengthen defense against DoS Attacks in Anonymous Multihop Payment Channel Networks (MAN). MAN incorporates three algorithms for mitigation: path re-construction with unlimited attempts (PRA) as baseline approach, threshold-based path re-construction (PRT), and reputation-based path reconstruction mechanism (RBR) as enhanced approaches. PRT and RBR reduce the communication overhead by approximately 89.84% and 80.92%, respectively, in contrast to PRA. MAN ensures robust detection and mitigation of these attacks while preserving user anonymity and network efficiency. The proposed algorithms significantly enhances the strength of PCNs against DoS attacks, providing secure and reliable transactions in decentralized networks.
