In the modern information technology age, visual tools have become a great thing in effective teaching and learning. Image processing is an important science which deals with methods of manipulating digital images and also provides the basis of the current visual communication systems. Nonetheless, it is not always easy to teach image processing concepts as it demands some degree of creative and visualization abilities of the students. MATLAB is a commanding calculation platform that is extensively applied to building and trying engineering and scientific software. The presence of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is one of the greatest benefits, as it will allow learners to better understand more complex concepts intuitively. Practical illustrations help a lot in the comprehension of ideas. The paper provides a quick and efficient method of teaching digital processing of images with MATLAB. It gives a descriptive summary of common image processing algorithms including image restoration, image denoising, segmentation and edge detection, using MATLAB examples.
