The FIWARE platform is establishing itself as a European standard for building smart cities and systems based on the Internet of Things. With its development in recent years, it has found application in various fields like energy, economy, ecology and others. The platform is organized by various components, the basis of which is a context broker that receives data from end devices, and then transmits the data to other parts of the platform as a database or APIs. Typically, the end devices as smart sensors and actuators do not connect directly to a context broker, but an IoT agent is set up between them to convert the data into Next Generation Service Interface (NGSI) format. This study presents a device developed for direct communication with a context broker. The device sends data in NGSI format over HTTP, creates an entity and thus eliminates the need for IoT agents. The article describes the device hardware, software and the algorithms used for collecting and sending data. The results obtained show that the developed device successfully connects to a context broker and the sent data can be used for analysis and decision-making.
