R is a powerful statistical computing environment offering data manipulation, computation, and visualization capabilities. It is a free, open-source implementation of the S language, originally developed by John Chambers at Bell Labs, with a commercial version, S+®, available from Insightful Corporation. Created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman, R provides efficient data handling, matrix operations, and extensive tools for data analysis and visualization. RStudio, an integrated development environment (IDE) for R, features a console, syntax-highlighting editor, and tools for plotting, debugging, and workspace management. Available in open-source and commercial versions, it runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and web-based RStudio Server editions.
