Roots: An Object-Oriented Active Message Library

Roel van der Goot · Kluwer Academic Publishers eBooks · 2005

Roots is a communications library based on threads and active messages. In contrast, the PVM and MPI communications libraries are based on processes and peer-to-peer messages. This paper compares PVM and Roots , and shows that Roots is significantly faster on both a network of machines as well as a multi-processor machine. Additional advantages of Roots are that it is object-oriented and supports threads.
