MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SYSTEM FOR AUTOMOBILE

N Fujimoto, Minoru Ida · 2001

A radar system for an automobile using 76 GHz band was developed by NEC. A FMCW (frequency modulated continuous wave) system and multi- beam electronic scanning method were adopted, and high durability and decomposition ability were realized. Moreover, MMICs (monolithic millimeter wave integrated circuits) were used, and miniaturization and low-cost were realized. By development of this radar system, the automatic control of the distance between two cars in a highway becomes possible under bad weather conditions
