MILTRANS - A MILLIMETRIC DATA LINK FOR TRANSPORT APPLICATIONS
D Pansegrouw, Johnna D. Powell, D.J. Gunton, Peter Gardner · PROCEEDINGS OF THE 13th ITS WORLD CONGRESS, LONDON, 8-12 OCTOBER 2006 · 2006
This paper describes a high speed, networkable data link operating in the 63 to 64 GHz frequency band to support both roadside-to-vehicle and inter-vehicle communications. A summary of the design of the system and some results of a range of demonstrations in a road environment are presented, together with examples of applications. The data link utilizes novel antenna designs tailored to meet the required communication coverage area, as well as a bespoke GaAs MMIC chip set. To ease the initial design process, an existing MAC and modem combination has been used; comments are made on the benefits of this choice. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
