Epilogue: Design by Doing
Joan Greenbaum, Morten Kyng · 2020
In August of 1989 the contributors to this book held a two-day workshop to sort through what we thought we said and to look for a way to say what we really wanted to. Never an easy process, and this one was made particularly difficult by the fact that as sixteen authors sat with two and three drafts of chapters piled around their feet, a warm, sunny, August breeze swept through the windows. To propel ourselves out of our summer lethargy we decided to hold our own "condensed" future workshop, spending a half day on the project. On the drawing board, this book was to be called "Design by Doing". "Doing" was a central concept for us, embodying the idea that there needs to be active involvement of users and designers working together at activities that actually "do" something.
