VIDEO IMAGE DETECTION SYSTEMS - ITS DECISION REPORT

Justin Black, Dimitri Loukakos · 2000

This report evaluates Video Image Detection Systems (VIDS). VIDS employ machine vision technology to automatically analyze traffic data collected with Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems. The report provides a description of different VIDS, their measures of performance and new technology developments (digital versus analog). The assessment of VIDS covers its benefits and costs. The report also provides a description of several case studies, numerous links, and detailed references to on-line reports. Also available on the ITS DECISION website under the heading Traffic Surveillance are reports dealing with : Detection Algorithms, Loop Detectors, Probe Vehicle Surveillance, Wireless Phones, and other technologies.
