TOWARDS INFORMATION CENTRIC AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEM ARCHITECTURES
Gerd Teepe, Don Remboski, Richard Baker · 2002
This paper describes the dramatic increase of exchange and use of information through Broadband, Internet and Wireless solutions that will become integral to cars in the near future. The authors suggest that customers will demand more convenience, connectivity and comfort while they are in their vehicles, as well as more safety features and greater personalization of their car. The traditional vehicle architecture is dispersed and unconnected, while future vehicles will need automotive electronic architecture that is distributed and connected. In this paper the authors describe specific car standards such as CAN, LIN, Flexray, MOST and RF-links, and suggest that future technologies must include strict validation processes to achieve high quality levels over the relatively long lifecycle of a vehicle.
