Three-Phase Planar Eutectic Growth Models with Rod + Hexagon or Semi-Regular Structure for a Ternary Eutectic System

To consider a phase selection in a ternary eutectic system, analytical expressions for three-phase planar eutectic growth, assuming the geometries as regular, rod + hexagon and semi-regular types, have been derived. The relations that the undercooling is proportional to the square root of the growth rate of the interface and that the structure size is inversely proportional to the square root of the growth rate have been confirmed. The parameter values used in the growth models are expressed with the properties of materials. In this paper, the detailed procedure to derive the growth equations for the rod + hexagon structure and for the semi-regular structure is described.
