Through this paper we intend to show that technological developments in recent decades have created a strong society dependence of the means of communication and information technology. This has been increasingly made aware to ordinary people, but also military and political leaders. Increasing global dependence of sophisticated information systems and interconnection of these can produce significant opportunities and bigger information vulnerabilities. Also technological developments in electronics, communications and computer science offers new ways of achieving national security goals, while the risk factors for unprotected information structures grow exponentially.
