DSRC-BASED ON-BOARD EQUIPMENT - NEW DEVELOPMENTS, FUTURE TYPES

J Kersten · 8th World Congress on Intelligent Transport SystemsITS America, ITS Australia, ERTICO (Intelligent Transport Systems and Services - Europe) · 2001

This paper focuses on the latest technical developments in the area of On-Board Equipment for dedicated short range communication- (DSRC)-systems based on a 5.8 GHz-microwave link. Starting point for the analysis is the so-called monolithic type of On-Board-Equipment (OBE). This device is used in high volumes in most of the existing DSRC-systems. But in the future further types are required, stand-alone devices as well as connected ones. Moreover, new ideas for new equipment are currently under investigation, like a DSRC-device supporting a Bluetooth-link. These different types will be presented with their features and the use of these OBE will be mentioned. In the future the dissemination of the new devices creates new opportunities for the DSRC-technology. New On-Board Equipment with new functionality forms the basis for new emerging intelligent transportation systems- (ITS)-applications.
