East Japan Railway Company has been developing a ticketing system for next generation by using the Contactless Smart Card (CSC) since 1987. After developing this system for 10 years, we have finally established the technology. The developed system has achieved a season ticket with a stored fare function by utilizing batteryless CSC. We will begin to implement this system into Tokyo Metropolitan Area from 2001. We believe this system has huge potential and bright future.
