A class of Mth-band linear-phase FIR filters synthesized using the frequency-response masking approach

This paper introduces a class of Mth-band linearphase FIR filters synthesized using the frequencyresponse masking (FRM) approach. In the FRM approach, the overall filter makes use of periodic model filters and nonperiodic masking filters which makes it possible to obtain FIR filters requiring few arithmetic operations even when the transition band is narrow. The proposed filters are designed using linear and nonlinear programming. Design examples are included illustrating the efficiency of the proposed filters. 1.
