VEHICLE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

This article describes the VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System), operational since April 1996. In this system, a center collects and processes the traffic information of each area and provides information to moving vehicles via beacons installed at road sides and on wide area FM broadcasting systems. The OKI corporation has developed VICS using radio beacons as the information providing media. A uniform format of provided information and a uniform format of to provide the information to vehicles are specified.
